Lee Ann Daigle, of Lowell, was sentenced to 16 years in prison in connection with the 1985 death of her newborn daughter on Tuesday, June 20, WMTW reports

Daigle, formerly known as Lee Ann Guerette, was charged with her daughter's death after she was arrested at her Lowell home more than a year ago, as previously reported by Daily Voice

After being born, "Baby Jane Doe" was found abandoned in below-zero temperatures in a gravel pit in Frenchville, Maine on December 7, 1985, Maine State Police said.

Years of investigation and DNA evidence helped identify Daigle as the baby's mother and she was arrested without incident on July 13, 2022.

During her sentencing in Aroostook County Superior Court, Daigle attested to her growth and maturity while asking the jury for leniency.

“Not a day goes by that I wish I hadn’t done more,” Daigle said, WABI reports. "I made a mistake and I will live with that. I cannot correct the past, but I can continue to move forward.”

Ten years of Daigle's sentence was suspended and she will spend three years after he release on probation, WMTW reports.
